Anthropocene Annihilation

Branding project for a fictitious ecological cult that believes a Yellowstone Caldera erruption will happily bring about the end of humanity.

Research & Ideation

This actually started as a festival branding assignment, where one of the theme prompts was “science.” Naturally, my idea evolved from a children’s museum volcano event to a death cult in rapid progression.

My research for this project took me down some strange paths. Is the Anthropocene accepted by the larger scientific community? Could a Yellowstone doomsday actually happen? Ask me about my favorite cult!

I started working with a topographical-style animation and playing around with various layouts, but it lacked the playfulness I wanted in the final piece. I tried a few new variations, but was struggling to meet my ambitions on the animation-side.

Experimenting with the emitter in C4D was key for this project. A lava lamp volcano offered much-needed levity.
