An app redesign for a student shuttle service that students view as untrustworthy.
Current App

Background
TapRide is a service that coordinates shuttles for college students. The single TapRide app has three different userbases: students that request pickup, drivers that use it to navigate, and dispatchers that manage the queue.
Research & Ideation

Research
MICA uses TapRide, so I conducted interviews to understand common frustrations users have about this app. I created a user persona based off of feedback I received from students.

Ideation
I did quick sketches of the functionality and started with a low fidelity mockup to test layout ideas. Then, I used Figma to develop an interactive prototype that I tested with users and adjusted on their feedback.
Students were very familiar with ride-sharing apps, so I went into the design process thinking about these app’s ubiquitous design features. One key differential is that it’s a shuttle system with a queue — you typically have more users waiting with TapRide than the closest product peer, UberPool. The queue system had to be strong, because “feeling abandoned by the app” was a major issue that users brought up.

Reflections
In the near future, I’d love to further develop my prototype by integrating a driver view redesign + testing, and incorporating the seperate MICA Circulator Shuttle within the app.
